Empowering Gallatin’s Corporate Citizens

Gallatin’s Economic Development Agency provides “service after the sale” with its
existing industry networking initiative, the GEAR (Gallatin Expansion and Retention)
Program.

The GEAR Program helps Gallatin industry leaders network and solve problems. The
program connects the city’s corporate citizens with services, resources and assistance
from the GEDA, other City departments, and other local, regional and state
organizations.

GEAR meets quarterly, rotating its meetings between member facilities. Company
leadership sets the agenda and scope of work. Whether it be installing a left turn signal,
improving a road, facilitating a meeting among local educators, providing an update
about issues of the day or any other task, GEDA is there to respond to the needs of
the companies that call Gallatin home.

I believe the GEAR program is the most pro-active and pragmatic group. Having dealt with economic development groups in six different states, I believe the GEAR program is the most pro-active and pragmatic group with which I have worked. While any economic development group needs to work on bringing in new business to the area, the GEDA, through GEAR, consistently looks for ways to assist their existing companies and to patch them into the many state and local resources available to help them grow their business. I have often wondered why other economic development groups spend all their time recruiting businesses when it is far cheaper to keep the ones they have.
